What Is a Bespoke Access Platform?

A bespoke access platform, sometimes searched for as a custom access platform, is equipment engineered around a specific site, structure or task rather than picked off a hire sheet. Standard Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and scaffold cover most access needs, but some jobs don’t fit a standard machine or a standard tower, and forcing one to fit is where compromises on safety creep in. What Makes a Platform Bespoke

A bespoke access platform is engineered for a specific site, structure or task. That can mean a non-standard deck size or shape, a working height or reach a standard machine can’t achieve, load capacity built around specific materials or tools, or fixings and access routes designed around a structure that doesn’t have a standard access point. Where a standard MEWP or scaffold would need constant adaptation, or simply can’t reach or carry what the job needs, a bespoke access platform is built to fit first time.

When You Need a Bespoke Access Platform

Non-standard structures. Aircraft, rail pits, industrial plant and process equipment are rarely built with standard access in mind. A platform designed around the actual structure, rather than adapted to it, gets crews safely to the work.

Unusual height, reach or load. Where the combination of height, horizontal reach and platform load falls outside what a standard MEWP or scissor lift can deliver, a bespoke design can meet all three at once.

Semi-permanent or repeat access. If the same access point will be used repeatedly over months or years, a bespoke access platform designed and installed for that specific location is often more efficient than repeated machine or scaffold hire.

Sites where standard kit compromises safety. If getting a standard machine to fit means extending outriggers into a walkway, working at an awkward angle, or accepting reduced load capacity, that’s a sign the site needs a platform designed around it, not a workaround.
