Spider Lift Hire for Christmas Decorations and Festive Lighting

Nov 20, 2025 | Uncategorized

Every November, facilities managers and town councils face the same problem: getting a giant tree, miles of LED lighting or a suspended feature decoration installed safely at height, often inside a working retail centre or on a busy high street. A tracked spider lift is built for exactly this, protecting the floor it stands on indoors, and fitting into spaces a truck-mounted platform never could outdoors.

Indoor installations: atria, vaults and sensitive floors

Inside retail centres, museums and corporate lobbies, the challenge is reaching a central point without damaging an expensive floor. Spider lifts distribute their weight across tracks and stabiliser pads rather than wheels, which keeps ground pressure low enough to work on marble, timber and decorative tiling without cracking or scuffing it. A compact model such as the Hinowa Lightlift 17.75 tracks through a standard double door, so kiosks and fixtures don’t need to be dismantled to get the machine to the working area, and the boom’s articulating joint reaches over obstacles like fountains or information desks to hang decorations from a central ceiling or truss.

Outdoor installations: high streets and town centres

Outdoors, the issues are terrain, traffic and space. Tracks hold a stable line across uneven pavement, kerbs and compacted ground in a way wheels don’t, which matters on older town squares and high streets. A spider lift’s footprint is a fraction of a truck-mounted platform’s, so it can be set up in a narrow street or within a cordon without the road closure a larger machine would need, and outreach on the boom often clears parked cars or market stalls when lighting is being run across a street.

Built for the pace of the festive period

Electric and hybrid models run quietly enough for night or early-morning installs with minimal disruption to nearby residents or businesses, and offer power outputs in the basket for lighting tests as decorations go up. Individually positioned outrigger legs let the machine level itself on sloped or irregular ground, which matters when working near lampposts or on old city streets. As with any work at height, this should be planned against current HSE guidance, and by an IPAF-trained operator.

What you get with Global Platforms

Our spider lift fleet covers working heights from approximately 15m to 33m, including the Hinowa Lightlift and Platform Basket ranges, and we survey the site before recommending a machine, so the lift that turns up is the one that actually fits your doorway, floor loading and access window. Hires are nationwide, under ISO 9001, IPAF Rental+ and SSIP accreditation.

If you’ve got festive lighting or a large decoration to install this year, get in touch on 01925 830874 or info@globalplatforms.co.uk and we’ll recommend the right machine for your site.
